How to Find a Space for Quiet Time

For The Positive Mind by Joan Healy. ©The Positive Mind.

There are places that we can visit when we need a moment to get away. When life seems like a rat race, we need a place where we can go for some respite. This location, wherever it is, is so important as it allows us to rest and recharge our batteries. So where are these places to be found? The good news is we don’t need to hop on a plane to experience this relief. I have compiled some tips on where to find the best get-away places.

  1. A forest or park.

It is the most grounding experience to be deep in nature. There are so many beautiful natural amenities in which we can really enjoy nature. It is deeply soothing to the mind to explore a forest or park. This visit would literally bring us back to earth.

  1. Seaside or a riverbank.

The sea and rivers are great opportunities to get relief from the cares of the day. We can meditate on the tide, watch the flow of the river or simply be in awe at the power of the waves as they crash against the rocks. The sea breeze is very invigorating to our health.

  1. Sacred buildings.

Even if you do not consider yourself a religious person, there is something very beautiful about sitting in an ornately decorated, beautiful building such as a cathedral. In places such as churches, we can pause from our hectic lives to spend a moment in silence and perhaps light a candle.

Some people find it very calming to visit the gravestone of a loved one. It can be a nice way to spend a few minutes by bringing some flowers to the grave and by reflecting on fond memories. Graveyards are also in general very quiet and sacred places; in which people can take a moment to themselves.

  1. A café.

Another good option to get away for some quiet time can be to visit a café. In cafes, we can watch the traffic of people outside pass us. We can enjoy being in our own little cocoon of calmness. We can also enjoy the peacefulness of simply relaxing with a cup of tea.

  1. A meditation space at home.

We can even create a space in our own home to escape to. You can set up an area dedicated to meditation in your home. You can make this a comfortable, beautiful place with cushions, rugs and paintings. The decorations do not need to be religiously themed. This is your own unique space. Some people like to set up a nice collection of photographs, ornaments etc. which elicit positive feelings.

Whatever place you choose, make sure that the location has some meaning or significance to you. It is a great relief to get away even for a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is important to find a space in which you can rest and return to when you need it. Just in case of a rainy day.
